The Bachelor Sails on Cool Change
March 9, 2009
The final two ladies on “The Bachelor” tv show had dates with Jason in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands including a romantic sail on our very own “Cool Change”.
“ABC’s Bachelor, just screened in the US, has found true love in New Zealand - and he’s not just talking about the quest for his fiancée!
Jason Mesnick, who is on the search for happiness on ABC’s hit show The Bachelor, from Warner Horizon Television, fell in love with New Zealand when the show filmed their final episodes. “I have done a lot of travelling in my life,” says Jason. “But honestly New Zealand is the most beautiful place I have ever been.”
The final two episodes of the reality show were filmed in Queenstown and the Bay of Islands in New Zealand.
In the dramatic finale Jason took his final two dates for a picnic to one of the area’s iconic beaches, Pink Shell beach, and played golf at the scenic Kauri Cliffs golf course, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The final two ladies also had last-chance dates with Jason in the Bay of Islands including a romantic sail on our very own “Cool Change“, coffee at a local café in Russell and a relaxing massage at a luxury villa, Eagle’s Nest.”…

Wildlife Sanctuaries
August 3, 2008
New Zealand has extensive nature reserves throughout the country and the Bay of Islands is no exception. Many of the 144 islands are managed by our Department of Conservation with wildlife sanctuaries and walking tracks throughout. Many of the beaches provide nesting sites for endangered bird life and native vegetation regeneration is encouraged on the hillsides so that the songs of our forest birds can be heard.
Overnight Sail to Great Barrier
July 16, 2008
Another family opted for a couple of long overnight sails to and from Great Barrier Island for a long weekend. The 70 year old birthday boy enjoyed a hike through the spectacular bush to a Kauri Dam with his son Neil and Cool Change’s breathless crew. The wiser Mum and Gran stayed with the children to play in the lower bush and streams near the beach. We all dined well on crayfish and snapper that weekend.
North Island Sailing Holiday
April 22, 2008
In the middle of April we were joined by a wonderful English couple, Nigel and Caroline. They had decided to see and experience as much as they could over an extended cruise and also to ‘test’ Caroline’s ‘sea worthiness’ for Nigel’s future plans.(?)
Weather conditions were not ideal but armed with our local chemist’s secret weapon, the famous Paihia Bombers in case of mal de mer, we set sail to cover as many remote areas as possible. Leaving the sheltered Bay of Islands we sailed down the coast exploring as we went to Tutukaka, out to Great Barrier Island via the isolated Mokohinau Islands, across to Coromandel and through the Hauraki Gulf Islands where we farmed sheep and cattle in a previous life, then finally to Auckland City and the airport.
Caroline passed Nigel’s ‘test’ with flying colours and both are keen to follow up with overnight and offshore sailing experience.
Well done Caroline !!

Dear Don and Marilyn,
We had a fabulous holiday in NZ and Australia, and we just wanted to thank you both for such a wonderful time on Cool Change. We heard that Tom Cruise and family were on a luxury catamaran in the Bay of Islands shortly after us, hope it was with you !
All the very best, you both deserve it.

“Canterbury” Sinking
November 16, 2007
On November 3rd the Navy vessel ”Canterbury” was finally laid to rest off Deep Water Cove in front of a huge crowd of spectator boats enjoying a delightful summers day. The sinking was ‘spectacular’ but there were a few teary eyes amongst our passengers.
The ship is destined to become an artificial reef and future dive site.
